Ruth SchmidtExecutive Director
Under Ms. Schmidt’s leadership, WECA’s flagship programs have continued to thrive while new and comprehensive initiatives have been implemented. During her tenure, WECA became a consortial partner in the statewide implementation of the YoungStar program, and a leading voice on both state and national levels for strengthening the child care workforce throught policy and systems improvement.
Ms. Schmidt earned her bachelor’s degree from Grinnell College and has extensive executive leadership experience that includes management consulting with organizations, associations, counties and municipalities across Wisconsin. Ms. Schmidt is actively involved with the Wisconsin Early Learning Coalition, the National Birth to Five Policy Alliance, and the Peer Advocate Roundtable.
Jeanette PaulsonDirector of Workforce Initiatives
During her tenure with WECA Ms. Paulson has been instrumental in bringing the T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® Wisconsin Scholarship Program to Wisconsin. Prior to becoming the Director of Workforce Initiatives she was the director of both the T.E.A.C.H. Scholarship program and the REWARD Wisconsin stipend program. Ms. Paulson has 25 years experience working with infants through school- aged children in a variety of settings. She holds a a Master of Arts degree in Continuing and Vocational Adult Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Board of Directors
The purpose of the Board of Directors is to focus on the effective operation of the association as well as carry out the legal and fiduciary responsibilities of WECA. Five members are selected by the Member Advisory Council and two are elected by the members.
