REWARD Waiting List Now in Effect

REWARD has had a very busy year. Due to one-time funding, the program was able expand so new Registry levels would be eligible for REWARD. Additionally, we were able to award higher stipend amounts during the first six months of 2016. As a result, REWARD participation is higher than it has ever been. However, this success is tempered with budget realities. Now that we have returned to typical REWARD funding amounts, the growing demand requires that REWARD initiates a WAITING LIST.

The daily work of the REWARD program will continue as usual. Agreement renewal forms will be sent out on schedule. New applications will still be accepted. New applications and renewal materials that are coming into the WECA office will be date stamped to determine their order on the waiting list. When an application or renewal form is received it will be placed at the end of the waiting list. Individuals placed on a waiting list will be removed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Each month, the first 120 eligible individuals at the beginning of the waiting list will receive an agreement and stipend.

You may be asking yourself - Is it worth applying if I am only going to be put on a waiting list? Yes! WECA is holding on to its vision of better compensation for Wisconsin’s child care workforce. A powerful way to demonstrate that current funding is insufficient is by making sure your name is on the REWARD waiting list! Hold your place in line. Don’t give up on the REWARD program. We’re not!

Take Action: Call to the Governor’s Office to advocate for more REWARD and T.E.A.C.H. funding!

Wisconsin State CapitalGiving young children our best means ensuring they have well-educated teachers and providers who provide the stable relationships needed for healthy development. Education and retention of the child care workforce is a primary focus of the REWARD stipend program and T.E.A.C.H. scholarship program. Both are successful programs that are essential to meeting and sustaining high quality standards, and both are currently operating with waiting lists.

Call Governor Scott Walker’s office at (608) 266-1212 and share this simple message with his staff:

Current funding for T.E.A.C.H. scholarship program and REWARD stipend program is not enough to keep up with demand; more funding is critical. Specifically we are asking for a $7.5 million annual increase in the upcoming 2017-2019 state budget for support of these two programs.

Every call is a positive step. After you make your call, feel free to share your thoughts on WECA’s Facebook page.
