Power to the Profession
The early childhood profession today and tomorrow: WECA wins grant to gather Wisconsin perspectives for national project.
WECA is a proud participant in Power to the Profession – a two-year collaborative project lead by NAEYC. As a partner in this project we will be inviting you to offer your thoughts in a variety of ways. Questions will relate to how you experience the field of early childhood education and what you need to stay in the field and perform the vital work of teaching and leading.
Between now and May, 2019, WECA staff will be engaging with early childhood educators throughout Wisconsin.
Through small group discussion and online surveys there will be opportunity to reflect on and contribute your views on key questions facing the early childhood education profession.
Why your engagement is important
Power to the Profession will give early childhood educators an opportunity to contribute to a comprehensive set of the guidelines that advance their livelihoods and improve their lives.
“While there are professional standards within programs, organizations and states, this initiative provides an opportunity to achieve a level of shared ownership that unifies the entire profession,” says Rhian Evans Allvin, Executive Director of NAEYC.
At the end of two years’ time NAEYC envisions creating a framework that can be embedded in federal legislation and adopted by states through model legislation. The framework will be a part of a larger and much needed national policy and financing strategy for early childhood education.
