Enriching Professional Development Opportunities
Amy Burkhalter had long wanted to attend early childhood-focused conferences. WECA helped turn the longtime early educator’s thought into a reality in fall 2023 by supporting her attendance at National Association for the Education of Young Children’s annual conference.
“I learned a wealth of amazing information and resources that I will be able to use with my classroom and share with my fellow teachers,” shared Amy, who works as a lead teacher at Rainbow Child Care in Green County.
Budget constraints had always made Amy take pause in attending state or national conferences, so the scholarship opportunity offered by WECA was a welcome learning and networking opportunity. An early childhood professional for 34 years and WECA/NAEYC member, she jumped at the incredible opportunity to meet and collaborate with early educators from across the country at NAEYC’s most recent event in Nashville.
“It was wonderful to be able to collaborate with educators from all over the world and learn how children are taught so differently,” Amy said. “Yet, we all have the same goal of helping every child reach their fullest potential and teaching them to be kind, empathetic, responsible humans.”
Amy attended a wide variety of sessions on a range of topics – 22 to be exact – all of which she called fantastic and full of new and valuable information. Plus, the experience of visiting Nashville and meeting other early educators from overseas locations, like Japan, England, New Zealand, and Britain, in addition to peers from across the United States, was invaluable, she said.
“I made connections through talking with other educators that will continue to help me do the best I can for the children in my care,” she said. “To be able to spend the week and learn with so many positive, passionate teachers and educators is something I will never, ever forget.”

Amy Burkhalter llevaba mucho tiempo deseando asistir a conferencias enfocadas en la primera infancia. WECA ayudó a convertir en realidad el deseo de la educadora infantil en el otoño de 2023 al apoyar su participación en la conferencia anual de la National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
“Aprendí una gran cantidad de información y recursos sorprendentes que podré usar en mi salón de clase y compartir con mis colegas educadores”, compartió Amy, quien trabaja como maestra principal en Rainbow Child Care en el condado de Green.
Las limitaciones de presupuesto siempre habían hecho que Amy se detuviera a la hora de asistir a conferencias estatales o nacionales, por lo que la beca ofrecida por WECA fue una oportunidad bienvenida para aprender y establecer contactos. Como profesional de la primera infancia durante 34 años y miembro de WECA/NAEYC aprovechó la increíble oportunidad de conocer y colaborar con educadores infantiles de todo el país en el evento más reciente de NAEYC en Nashville.
“Fue maravilloso poder colaborar con educadores de todo el mundo y aprender cómo se enseña a los niños de manera tan diferente”, dijo Amy. “Sin embargo, todos tenemos el mismo objetivo de ayudar a cada niño a alcanzar su máximo potencial y enseñarles a ser seres humanos amables, empáticos y responsables”.
Amy asistió a una amplia variedad de sesiones sobre diversos temas (22 para ser exactos), todas las cuales calificó de fantásticas y llenas de información nueva y valiosa. Además, la experiencia de visitar Nashville y conocer a más educadores infantiles de lugares en el extranjero, como Japón, Inglaterra, Nueva Zelanda y Gran Bretaña, además de colegas de todo Estados Unidos, fue invaluable, dijo.
“Hice conexiones al conversar con educadores que continuarán ayudándome a hacer lo mejor que pueda para los niños bajo mi cuidado”, dijo. “Poder pasar la semana y aprender con tantos educadores positivos y apasionados es algo que nunca jamás olvidaré”.
